FILM REVIEWS

Here follows a list of some of my favourite films. Which particular is my favourite seems to vary depending on my mood and how long since I've last seen it, so I haven't bothered ranking them, but I think these are all great movies.

2001 : A Space Odyssey

One of the most famous science fiction films of all time, with visual effects that have rarely been bettered in the years since its release.

Airplane!

Hilarious and extremely silly comedy about a doomed airliner.

Being John Malkovich

Malkovich malkovich, malkovich malkovich. Malkovich malkovich malkovich malkovich malkovich malkovich malkovich malkovich's malkovich.

Blade Runner

Hugely influential science fiction movie about a Bounty Hunter who hunts escaped androids. Co-starring Rutger Hauer.

Dark City

Atmospheric science fiction film about a man with strange powers but no memory.

Donnie Darko

A unique science fiction movie that is probably one of the best films of recent years.

Galaxy Quest

Hilarious Star Trek spoof that also manages to be a pretty good Science Fiction movie in its own right.

A Knight's Tale

Silly but fun movie about jousting.

Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring

Epic, hugely impressive adaptation of Tolkien's fantasy novel.

The Matrix

A superb sci-fi action movie, even if it's as clever as it thinks it is.

Memento

Convoluted thriller about a man with no short term memory.

The Shawshank Redemption

Prison movie about an innocent man jailed for murder. Rises above the cliches that it could easily fall into.

The Usual Suspects

Ingenious thriller about a group of double-crossing criminals.

Vanilla Sky

Hollywood remake of inventive Spanish movie "Open Your Eyes".

X-Men 2

Probably the best of the recent batch of superhero blockbusters.
