Def By Temptation (1990)

In the world of cinema there are good films, then there are bad films and even bad-but-quite-entertaining films, but, right at the bottom of the cinematic pile are utterly terrible films with no redeeming features like this.
This lamentable effort is directed by the interestingly named James Bond 3rd and produced by the infamous Troma group. Troma films are rarely good but at their best they can be quite amusing (Chopper Chicks In Zombie Town for example), but this is not one of those films.
The plot (such as it is) is that a female demon or vampire or something (the film is never too clear on the point) is seducing men in a bar in New York and then killing them in a shower of poorly-conceived cheap gore. Main character (also played by the director) is a country boy training to become a minister, whose parents were killed in strange circumstances. Inevitably he must confront the monster but not before there’s been some tediously bad dialogue, uninteresting characterisation, limp attempts at humour and some laughably amateurish action sequence.
The front of the DVD box says in large letters “Starring Samuel L. Jackson”, but unfortunately for the film he is only in only in a couple of brief flashback scenes as Bond’s father. Even in his brief role he is the best actor by far in this film but unfortunately the minor involvement of an actor who would one day be famous is the only interesting thing to say about this film.
Rating : 2 / 10
